About me: Who I am as an individual and a Professional School Counselor

Welcome!

My name is Chris Watson! I am a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College where I received a Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences degree. I was a dual major in Psychology and Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources. In May of 2019, I completed my Master of Arts in Counseling Services degree with a concentration in school counseling from Rider University. During this time, I also received a National Certified Counseling certificate (NCC), Student Assistance Coordinator certificate (SAC), and became a certified Career and Life Coach (CLC). I currently have a license to counsel within both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Throughout my journey in education, I was invited to join the Rho Upsilon Beta Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota (the International Counseling Honor Society), Pi Gamma Mu (the International Honor Society in Social Sciences) and have also become a member of the American School Counseling Association (ASCA). At this time, I am seeking a school counseling position within an elementary, middle or high school setting.

Prior to graduating with my Master of Arts in Counseling Services degree, I was offered a job in higher education where I serve Rider University’s student and faculty population as the On-Campus Student Employment Counselor. My position resides in the department of Career Development and Success. Within this role, I explore student interests and link positions on campus to fit the needs of both the student and hiring department. The end goal within this rapport building process is to identify strengths in my clients and help them land an opportunity that will allow them to grow personally and professionally. Within this process I also work closely with financial aid, as I directly oversee the Federal Work Study Program. Additionally, I recently was encourage to serve Rider University in the capacity of an adjunct professor. Within this measure, I now instruct CBA 336 (Career Planning) and also CIS 185 (Information Systems Essentials). The most important and enjoyable aspects of my various jobs at Rider University is working with the student population and creating lasting relationships. I pride myself on being a resource for students and hold myself accountable to stay current.

Prior to my career change from business to education, I worked in Supply Chain Management for a Fortune 100 company. After two years, I sought a more meaningful career where I could make a lasting impact on the youth of our country. Thus, my journey began to become a school counselor.
